NVL preview (10th and 11th October) - Clubs vying for immediate Super League returns begin their bids

The NVL returns to full speed this weekend with a largely full programme of fixtures across the regional sections of the three men's and women's divisions.

While some teams are yet to begin their league programmes, others have the chance to be early pacesetters in the fledgling league standings.

The first matches of the season in Division 1 North see two teams relegated from the MAAREE Women's Super League get their campaigns underway by meeting each other.

Leeds Gorse, who have plenty of exciting homegrown talent coming through their ranks, take on a Darkstar Derbyshire who lost a five-set play-off final to Lionhearts Vinarius in April.

After their short trip up the M1, the East Midlands side are also in action on Sunday as they return home to host Everton Belugas.

Manchester Marvels Mayhem entertain Cambridge ARU to round off the division's fixtures.

Oxford Eagles make their Division 1 South bow after promotion through the play-offs by meeting 2025 National Shield winners Bristol.

An intriguing London derby on Sunday pitches Onyx London, who won their opening match last week, against last year's second placed team, Richmond.

Team South Wales will hope to continue their strong end to the 25-26 season when they visit Reading Aces.

There are three matches in Division 2 North, starting with Sheffield on Saturday, who will be top of the table come the end of their weekend, having won last week, if they can overcome Stockport in straight sets.

If not, the early top spot could be claimed by Newcastle Staffs, who journey to newly-promoted Manchester Marvels Mystics.

A cross-Pennines battle between Leeds Gorse 2 and Manchester Liberators concludes things on Sunday.

In Division 2 Central, Tamworth Spartans are the only team to have so far played who have recorded a victory, meaning success at Cambridge 2 would make them early leaders.

One of Bristol 2 and Wombourne will be able to put an opening weekend defeat behind them when they meet at Avanti Gardens School.

None of the six teams playing in Division 2 South have yet to make their mark, and first to have that opportunity on Saturday will be two newly-promoted sides in the shape of Ashcombe Dorking and London Ravens.

Elsewhere, Herts welcome Richmond 2, while Dartford Chargers go to Southampton.

Everton Narwhals will bid to make it four wins from four in Division 3 North after their opening triangular as they now take on Hull Thunder and Urmston Grammar on Humberside.

All of Newcastle Staffs 2, Leeds Gorse 3 and Ashfield Vipers get their seasons underway in a triangular in North Nottinghamshire.

Two triangulars feature in Division 3 Central as Cambridge 3 debut against fellow newcomers Nuneaton Flames and Northampton 2, while Loughborough Students 2 host Rhinos Cambridge and Nottingham Rockets.

Cardiff Falcons will bid to maintain their unbeaten start in Division 3 North West as they take on Bedminster 2 and newbies Weymouth.

Chelmsford start their NVL story in Division 3 South East against Essex Ravens and Kent Invicta.

London Aces can build on their opening day success when they return to Division 1 South action this week, but they will need to negotiate a tricky fixture of they are to do it.

Last season's Division 2 Central champions Oxford Bulls – who have clinched two consecutive promotions – lie in wait on their own court, keen to get their own campaign off to a flier and begin a journey to make it three in three seasons.

The other match sees Southampton and Dartford Crossers – another side making the step up – at Itchen College Sports Centre.

Both sides relegated from the DYNAMIK Men's Super League at the end of last season will begin their quest for an immediate return to the top flight on Saturday with home matches in Division One North.

Durham Palatinates host Black Country, while Leeds Gorse, like their women, host Darkstar Derbyshire, who were promotion and National Shield winners last season.

It's a similar scenario in Division 2 South, where Wessex and Exeter Storm, who both made the drop from Division 1 South are ready to go, visiting Richmond Bucks and welcoming London Baks respectively.

A third game on Sunday sees Kent Invicta look to bounce back after first game defeat against a London Lionhearts team who won their opening encounter.

Telford have enjoyed that winning feeling throughout their time so far back in the NVL and will look to extend that run when Newmarket visit in Division 2 Central.

Elsewhere, Reading Aces and Northampton do battle at Kendrick School.

A Yorkshire derby on Sunday in Division 2 North pairs Leeds Gorse 2 with Sheffield Springers.

Before that Stockport and Nottingham Rockets are in action at Life Leisure Brinnington Park.

It was a tough start to life in the NVL for Red Eagles Luton as they lost their first two matches in Division 3 South East last week.

But they have the chance to quickly get back to winning ways as they host Newmarket 2 and Guildford International in a triangular at Houstone School.

It's a busy week in Division 3 Central, with two triangulars, one of each day of the weekend.

Firstly, on Saturday, Black Country 2, Nuneaton Inferno and Darkstar Derbyshire 2 go up against each other and then, on Sunday, Norwich Spikers, Rhinos Cambridge and Coventry and Warwick Riga 2 do battle.

Meanwhile, a triangular between well-fancied NVL newcomers and last season's National Shield finalists, Legends Oldham pitches them against Newcastle Staffs 2 and Urmston Grammar in Division 3 North.
